Ok, at the urging of one of our more literate contributers, we kick off the trial run here of the PW Book Club. The first selection has been made and is: The Painted Bird by Jerzy N. Kosinski. Beg, borrow, or steal a copy and read by the first week of February if you wish to contribute. Let's see how this bird flys.

I have the book and am reading it now.............
the introduction is a really great bit and worth the read. Kosinski, even in his older age is an incredible survivor and a man of his own making (see the story of the intruders in the intro). at p.100 the book has been captivatingly dark and captured a misery that i figured would be unknown to most, let alone an 8 year old boy.
